We at Cray Youth and Family Services are very saddened by the recent and sudden passing of one of our long-time Board members, Anthony Aven. Anthony had been with the organization since before it was an organization. Anthony was with us since Allan Joseph and I first conceived the idea of a boys group home for Lawrence County in the early 1980’s. He served as our Secretary Treasurer for over 27 years. He supported our work in the community and also supported us financially. Anytime we had a need, or asked him to sponsor a fundraising event, he was there. He never turned us down!

I hope everyone had the opportunity to read our Board President, Larry Kelly’s recent article in the New Castle News about his long-time friend and fellow board member. It was a very moving and heartfelt remembrance of Anthony. Anthony, as Larry pointed out, was a very tough guy with a heart of gold.

Cray has lost a valued Board member and friend. Our community has lost a generous and loved member. We will always remember Anthony’s contagious smile, his great laugh, and his generous soul. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
